Granite Peak Downhill Skiing - Wausau

The most popular ski destination in central Wisconsin is the Granite Peak ski area. Rib Mountain State Park is the home of this ski resort . Of course Rib Mountain is by definition only a hill, but when you get there you'll see how it got its name. With 74 runs, you'll feel like you're at a mountain ski resort.
From Dreams of Yesteryear, it's only about a 25 minute drive to get to the Granite Peak ski area.

Nordic Mountain Ski Resort
More skiing is available south of Stevens Point about 40 miles on Mt. Morris, WI. Nordic Mountain is a great ski hill for beginning skiiers, and a fun hill for everyone. It definately qualifies as a small ski resort, but if you want a challenge and have never tried T-bar (surface) lifts before, you must give them a try! Chair lifts are available too. From Dreams of Yesteryear, this would be an easy afternoon trip. Or if you're driving up from Chicago or southern Wisconsin, you could catch some runs on Nordic before heading to Stevens Point to stay. Cross-country skiing is also available at Nordic Mountain.

On Your Way to the Upper Peninsula to Ski?
Speaking of being on your way to places, Stevens Point is a popular overnight stop on your way to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In the U.P., ski resorts like Brule and Whitecap are popular winter havens.

Cross-Country Ski Trails in Central Wisconsin
Cross-country skiing is popular in Stevens Point, WI. Part of the Green Circle Trail system is groomed for skiing throughout the winter months. This section of cross country trails is located in the city wellfields on the east side of Stevens Point, near the airport. Use of this trail is free.
Are you a more advanced cross country skiier? Then you will enjoy the challenge of Standing Rocks, just outside of Stevens Point proper. About 10 miles south-east, is Standing Rocks Parks cross-country ski area. There are 10 miles of trails here, 75% of them rated intermediate and advanced due to the hilly terrain.
